AGENDA

I.) 4:00PM - 6:00PM

The CFE and International Privacy Compliance

This presentation will review the complexities and constantly evolving world of international privacy compliance, with a particular focus on the role a CFE can play in privacy compliance. A contrast between domestic and international privacy regulatory schemes, an overview of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) of the European Union and a survey of the privacy regulations of selected other countries will be included.

Specific learning points include:

  • The difference between privacy in the U.S. and other countries.
  • What is the GDPR and how does it impact trans-Atlantic business. This will include a review of the recent Schrems II of the Court of Justice of the European Union.
  • Why the CFE is a natural fit for the role of a Chief Privacy Officer.

6:00PM- 6:10PM BREAK

II.) 6:10PM - 8:00PM

Accountants: Moving Beyond Professional Standards to Detect, Deter & Prevent Fraud

Experienced accountants, auditors, and fraud examiners serve as a critical line of defense against would-be fraudsters. Professional standards address the need to exercise professional and moral judgment and act in the best interest of the public, but how can accountants exercise due care in performing their daily activities? And, perhaps more importantly, how can practitioners continue to uncover and prevent misconduct in a post COVID-19 world?

Session participants will learn how to:

  • Identify and avoid unethical situations in fraud investigations to operate within the boundaries of professional guidelines and standards;
  • Recognize current and emerging trends to spot new areas of weakness; and
  • Maintain a healthy dose of skepticism by ‘testing, not accepting’ when performing an investigation.
