The New York Chapter of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners sponsors events for our members and guests to help foster the goals of the chapter by educating members and raising awareness of fraud detection and fraud elimination. Lessons Learned From the 2020 Pandemic and What to Expect in 2021
The U.S. Secret Service shares information and provides training to industry partners and law enforcement partners through a world-wide network of Cyber Fraud Task Forces (CFTF’s). The primary objective of the CFTF’s is to deter, prevent and prosecute transnational cybercrime activities that target the United States. Latest trends related to COVID-19 scams as well as recent legal developments regarding Ransomware payments will be discussed.

- Debunking Myths – What law enforcement will not do when you report an incident
- Latest trends – COVID-19 scams, eSkimming, Business Email Compromise (BEC)
- Recent success stories – Russian Hacker sentenced to 12 years for network intrusion (SDNY/USSS/FBI investigation)
- BEC trends from ongoing investigations

Kevin McCleary’s Bio
Kevin McCleary is an Assistant to the Special Agent in Charge (ATSAIC) in the U.S. Secret Service (USSS) New York Field Office, where he currently serves as a supervisor in the Cyber Fraud Task Force (CFTF). The CFTF, in partnership with private sector, academic and federal/state law enforcement partners, investigates high profile cyber breaches and intrusions targeting the financial sector. ATSAIC McCleary previously served as the USSS liaison to the National Cyber-Forensics & Training Alliance (NCFTA) in New York. The NCFTA is a non-profit organization composed of law enforcement, private industry, and cademic experts focused on the identification, mitigation and neutralization of cyber threats through strategic alliances between member organizations. ATSAIC McCleary served as an Attaché to the US Embassy in The Hague, NL, where he was a member of Europol’s European Cybercrime Center’s (EC3) Joint Cybercrime Action Task Force (J-CAT). The J-CAT was comprised of cyber investigators from the UK, Spain, Italy, Netherlands, Germany, Canada, Australia, Austria, Columbia, and the FBI. ATSAIC McCleary holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Stonehill College and is currently pursuing Masters in Strategic Studies from the U.S. Army War College.
Abigail Tyrrell’s Bio
Abigail Tyrrell is a U.S. Secret Service Special Agent. She currently serves in the New York Field Office and is assigned to the New York Cyber Fraud Task Force (NYCFTF). Her duties and responsibilities include leading complex investigations targeting criminal enterprises comprised of transnational cyber criminals who attack the US financial infrastructure through an amalgam of fraud schemes. SA Tyrrell holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Thomas Edison State College and a Masters in Criminal Justice from the University of Central Florida. Prior to her service with the US Secret Service, she worked in the Congressional Offices of Florida’s 11 th District.
